The project forms part of the Gas Sector Efficiency Improvement and Carbon Abatement Project (GSEIP), financed by the International Development Association (IDA)/World Bank, and implemented by Paschim Anchal Gas Company Limited (PGCL). It focuses on the installation of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Geographic Information System (GIS), and a Smart Prepaid Metering System to modernize gas sector operations in Bangladesh.

The initiative aims to improve monitoring, control, and management of the gas transmission and distribution network through automation and digitalization. SCADA will enable real-time system control and surveillance, GIS will provide geospatial mapping for planning and asset management, while the Smart Prepaid Metering System will ensure accurate billing, revenue protection, demand management, and customer transparency.

Together, these components are designed to reduce system losses, enhance operational reliability, promote energy conservation, and support carbon abatement. The project also emphasizes capacity building of PGCL staff through training and knowledge transfer to ensure long-term sustainability.
